The Nearly Deads
Originally formed in Tampa, Florida before relocating to the musical mecca of Nashville, The Nearly Deads have crafted a sound that is unique upon itself, even while tipping it’s collective cap to influences ranging from Kelly Clarkson, to the Foo Fighters, to My Chemical Romance. While lead by the beautiful front-woman Theresa Jeane, The Nearly Deads are hardly another average band with a hot female singer. They are one of the tightest, most diverse musical outfits in the scene today. The classical training of vocalist Jeane is evident in the power and range of her voice, while her pop and punk influences shine through in her catchy lyrics and melodies. Guitarists Steven Tobi and Brandon Barnes are that rare combination of power players who don’t rely on overpowering riffs to force their music forward. Listening to songs like “Fact and Friction”, you quickly realize that they are the combination of modern mood setters combined with 90s rock sensibility which gives the music the most full, well rounded sound of any new band impacting today. They are carried by a superb rhythm section made up of bassist Kevin Koelsch and drummer Cory Walen; a collaboration that is the driving force behind their intoxicating energy.
The band’s buzz is already far-reaching. Their zombie-infested video for “Never Look Back” quickly went viral, now nearing 4 million views on YouTube without the benefit of any label or financial backing. It has been featured on MTVu, FUSE on Demand, and in Journey’s stores nationwide. The video, as well as their debut EP was directed and produced by Jon King (Throwing Gravity, 3 Pill Morning, Augustana). The success of the video can be largely attributed to the band’s direct approach. Their ever growing online fan-base is proof they are social media darlings who use the medium the way it’s supposed to be used; not only as a way to reach out to fans, but to build a relationship that is strong and will withstand the test of time as they grow in popularity and stature in the music scene.
The Nearly Deads are not content to rest on their past achievements. Having recently signed with Standby Records, they are looking to reach further out to the world to show everyone that they are here to stay and ready to be noticed. Four million people already know about them. Do you?
The Nearly Deads are currently in the studio preparing their debut full length album for release on Standby Records.
